So folks, what do you think of my program for my senior recital?
April 25th, 2010 | by travel |Okay, this is still slightly tentative…
Schumann: Carnaval, opus 9
Scriabin: Sonata number 2, opus 19
Ravel: Gaspard de la Nuit
intermission
Grieg: Ballade in G minor opus 24
???????????
Rachmaninoff: Sonata number 1 opus 28
So… Yep… First off, what should I have during the question mark gap… I have several ideas. Chopin’s polonaise fantasie? a Mozart or Beethoven or Schubert sonata? perhaps one of Brahms Paganini variations? Other ideas?
I’ll walk you through it with my thinking.
Schumann: This is a great opening piece! Ba BOOM!!! Such a great piece to start of with a ton off action!
Scriabin: Very contrasting to the Schumann… Almost like a “second movement” to the first half of the program. It is so beautiful…
Ravel: I’m not quite sure if I want to perform this or not. For one thing, it is very long… I don’t know… I love Le Gibet and Scarbo a ton, but is performing the entire work too much? Hmmm… what do you think? If not Gaspard, what else?
Grieg: I love this piece to pieces (no pun intended) Grieg is my favorite composer, and this is one of my favorite pieces.
?????????: I already mentioned this above…
Rachmaninoff: Yes, this is one of my favorite sonatas and an added bonus of the fact that it is rarely performed. I love all 3 movements of it, and the final movement works great as a massive finale…
So… Yeah… Opinions?
I’ve not yet to learn the Scriabin sonata, Ondine of Gaspard, or the 1st and 2nd movement of the Rachmaninoff sonata… But they should come along nicely.
Thanks for your opinions…

How offending! =] hahaha… what were they thinking?
Okay… Thank you all. I’ve got a ton of Ideas…
I didn’t think of the fatigue the audience will suffer. Hahaha…
Okay, lighten up?
I’ve decided that Gaspard just isn’t going to work. I love Gary’s idea of the 3rd ballade for a little fun. In place of the Gaspard?
Now about the empty slot… I Supppose you are right that 2 sonatas are excessive (the Scriabin sonata is only 2 movements long and is shorter…) How about a fine happy classical sonata? Mozart or Haydn? I think that’s what I’ll do.
Something lighter from the emotional desperation from all those pieces.
I’m not to worried about the endurance, I’ve given several 2 hour recitals before… But relpacing Gaspard (the toughest work outa them all…) with a more (still hard…) gentle and SHORTER ballade… That’ll be good. As for the Mozart or Haydn sonata, that is a superb idea!!
Really, mamianka is right, this could KILL me… Hahaha… I really hope it isn’t too long…
Now… I think instead of a Mozart or Haydn sonata… I could use a shorter piece? Or maybe one of the lighter Scarlatti sonatas… Or a Bach P and F?
I diffidently like the sound of that…
Thanks everybody! Great insight!
