Urgent! Can anyone help me please?
July 16th, 2009 | by travel |Hi, I come from Germany and I have a “musical” question:
Well, first about me: I’m in my last year in school (in Germany it’s the 13th school year) and in three months I’ll do my A-level.
Tomorrow and friday there will be a “probational exam” where we are going to sit in a classroom and write from 8 a.m. till 1 p.m. (5hours *phew!*). I will do my exams in Music and maths. and now I need your help in music:
Our teacher told us that we will have to analyze a piece by Maurice Ravel. Our semester topic is “Impressionism”. He also said that it will be a piece for piano (it could be a whole piece or 2/3 pages of a beginning). The only impressionistic music for piano Maurice Ravel has written are the 5part “Miroirs”, “Jeaux d’eau” and the three-part “Gaspard de la nuit”. I’m sitting now at home and trying to analyze the “Oiseaux Tristes” (”Sad Birds”), one piece of the “Miroirs”. Our teacher always asks us for WHY the composer calls his music pieces e.g. “Sad birds”. I have no problem with the sad birds, but I can’t see any mirror or reflection in the music of “Miroirs”. And in the internet there isn’t anything specific about this.
I really hope that you are more creative than me and that you can help me with this!
