In my book, the best of the best, nothing stands up to this today!

Oh sure, your point about the tie is well taken. But I still think Paladin came across more powerfully without it:)–
I had heard that about “Hec Ramsey,” which I also enjoyed, but never saw the show in which he confessed to being Paladin.
Boone was terrific. He was a marvelous villian in later John Wayne films like “Big Jake” and “The Shootist.” Also had a delightful bit as Charlton Heston’s aide in “The War Lord” –

But the “effete” look was actually appropriate: Paladin was not your conventional gunfighter - he had a college education [West Point], wore fancy clothes and enjoyed gourmet meals . . .
Interesting tidbit: When Richard Boone was playing “Hec Ramsey” in NBC’s Mystery Movie later on, in one episode, he revealed that he had been known as Paladin in his younger days . . . so he was actually reprising a role from almost 20 years earlier . . .

Thanks for the montage!]
Richard Boone could really chew the scenery, and I liked this show a lot.

This is one damn good show. The very best. I wish they made’em like that these days. You can tell that it was a different society when this show was made, no such thing as political correctness. It just makes you feel good to watch an episode, considering the crap that’s on tv these days.

Damn cool show, one of the best TV Westerns. Although I preferred it after Paladin got rid of that damn tie, which I thought made him look more effete than a professional gunfighter should:) –

i used to root for good-guy characters in tv shows. now all i see are characters that glorify cowardice, treachery, dishonor, and machiavellianism.

now i know ‘why?’ i married my second husband–looks just like Richard Boone!
Panbolt:
thank you for saying it best:
a rose by any other name….a man is a man.
each of us have a different ‘focus’ –keeps life from being ’stepford wives’….in my opinion.
thank you to whomever posted these: and to CBS for having more of them there to see.
PS: i think all us ‘old ones’ said: “Paladin’s on!”….’cause we liked seeing Richard Boone take care of the ‘bad guys’.

This freakin’ song has popped into my head at least once a day for decades now, even though I hadn’t heard it in thirty years. I just had to check it out. Now I’m doomed…

That was very well spoken…
Until I saw an episode of”Have Gun Will Travel”..All I saw were parodies of the title such as “Have(insert name)Will Travel..I’ve heard my late grandmother talk so much about this show that she actually called it”Paladin”
It was her favorite show & she recalls watching it on saturday nights..I started watching it on tape in 2005.I love the Paladin ballad as well as the opening sequence where he points his crafted revolver.

They had to film the opening scene of Gunsmoke (the gunfight)becauase James Arness kept losing to actor who played Sam the Bartender (the actor was not credited for the character in the opening scene).

Actually on CBS’ website, you can watch all sorts of their classic shows like this and twin peaks, etc. :] It’s in the video section with all the new shows and stuff. Complete series and everything. :]

Well done video. Good catch on the sinking card into the pond. Paladin was the best half-hour western series of its day. Gene Rodenberry even wrote an episode or two before he hit pay dirt with Star Trek. Paladin quote: In all my life Ive only seen a dozen real killers. But Ive seen 10,000 people that would stand by and let it happen. Which is the greater evil? Have Gun Will Travel. in The Hanging Cross episode.

Thank you so much for posting this. I REALLY enjoy seeing this again.
To the person who made the comment about the sexual preferences of Richard Boone: The man has been dead for quite some time now and for you to make a remark like that suggesting that he was *** only serves to demonstrate and PROVE that you have some deep problems with your own latent drives and sexuality. Or that you really just need attention. I feel sorry for you either way.

Robert A Heinlein wrote an excellent little book called “Have Space Suit Will Travel” and he based the title on this series title
